The challenge

Oban International had grown and evolved, but the brand hadn’t kept pace.

The foundations were there, but values needed updating, the identity had become overly complex, and the website no longer reflected the quality or character of the business. Oban needed clarity, not reinvention.

Strategy

Starting with the truth

Maven began with a brand workshop to uncover what was genuinely true about Oban today.

Together, we refreshed their values, clarified what sets them apart, and agreed a clear strategic direction. This work was captured in a strategy document that became the filter for every brand and design decision that followed

What we did

Refining, not replacing

With the strategy agreed, Maven refreshed the brand with care and restraint.

The logo was reimagined and simplified, retaining recognition while adding subtle character. Colours were refined and a secondary palette introduced to bring more flexibility.

We updated the type system, pairing Bricolage Grotesque with Inter to balance personality and clarity. A new approach to imagery added warmth and consistency, while the O shape from the logo was used as a distinctive device across layouts and graphic elements.

We really enjoyed working with the Maven team. They struck just the right balance between listening and challenging, and quickly got under the skin of the Oban brand. They also had the creative, technical and organisational chops to bring everything to life. We’re delighted with our refreshed identity and new website.
